Learning Objectives

Mighty Scholars Preschool Academy uses a combination of play-based centers and Montessori inspired teaching methods. Together, the curriculum forms a nurturing, rich and meaningful opportunity for learning with child-led and teacher-led hands-on intentional activities.

All students learn differently and enter school at varied stages of development. Each student is assessed and then tutored at their unique level of development with an individualized goal plan.

Pre-K Kinder-Prep
Advanced Guided Phonics

Pre-K scholars who have been individually assessed as ready to begin guided phonics CVC decoding, will continue one-on-one tutoring through the spiraling consecutive units in the guided phonics program. The science of reading aligned, guided phonics curriculum helps scholars develop necessary orthographic mapping skills through: letter-sound associations, phoneme awareness and crucial word study instruction to connect phonemes to the written word. Rather than rote memorization of sight words relying on shape and typically the first and last letter (which can lead to quick guessing, frustration and confusion later on) sight words are integrated throughout the spiraling phonics lessons as irregular high frequency "heart" words and decodable high frequency words.

Literacy Skills:
  • CVC Decoding
  • multi-sensory phonics approach
  • practice with tactile/kinesthetic feedback
  • blends
  • irregular high frequency "heart" words
  • decodable high frequency words
  • rimes
  • vowels
  • word mapping
  • word chains
  • dictation practice
  • auditory input tools
  • open access to classroom library decodable books
  • home–school connection practice with lesson decodables
